I don’t typically take the time to write reviews, but everyone needs to know how great this team is. From start to finish, ServiceFirst was the epitome of perfection. They took a very stressful situation and made it very easy to deal with.

I had a slow leak from the second story down into the garage so not only did I not know about it for quite some time, but it had created a large amount of mold. Being in a little beach cottage, the garage is for storage so I rarely go in there. Needless to say, when I discovered the damage I panicked big time. I scrambled to get my insurance involved and, as it turns out, my deductible was massive and my agent wasn’t too helpful so it was basically on me to figure something out. Not only was I thinking about the damage 24-7, but I had no idea how to proceed and what the cost would be. As soon as I called ServiceFirst, Eddie was dispatched ASAP and they even sent a plumber from Swell Plumbing (great guys) over too. Between Eddie and the plumber, they were able to diagnose the issue, break down in detail how to address the issue and get it started ASAP. It was a huge relief to know everything was in capable hands and I could finally sleep soundly knowing the work would be done timely, at a very reasonable cost, and with frequent updates along the way.

I enjoyed working with the entire team (Rafael, Eric, Devin, Eddie, Kevin and Christian), but I have to recognize the efforts of Eddie and Kevin as they were the ones working on the house. Both of them were super professional, hard working, courteous and trustworthy. I have countless examples to back up each characteristic and there’s no question they bring a lot to the operation, both professionally and personally. Overall, Christian (the owner) should be very proud of what he’s built. ServiceFirst absolutely lives up to its name. Service was front and center the entire time, and I can’t recommend this company enough. Hopefully I never again have the need to call, but if I do I know who the first call will be. In the meantime, I’m going to tell everyone I can about ServiceFirst and make sure my family and friends have them in their phone book.

A blind boy paid his way to a master’s degree at Northwestern University by taking notes on class lectures in Braille, typing them, and selling copies to classmates who had stronger eyes but weak ambition.

One of the great mysteries of life is why some people who seem to have all the advantages — the right connections, education, and experience — never seem to amount to much while others who have had to struggle for everything they have reach incredible heights of success. It hinges on determination. If you have the will to succeed, you will somehow find a way, regardless of the obstacles you encounter. Do you use all of your assets to achieve your goals, or are you handicapped by your lack of ambition? No other person can create in you a desire to succeed. With enough motivation, you will see things all around you that will help you reach your objectives, things that you may have overlooked many times before.

Self-pity is an opiate.

The most insidious problem with drugs is that the human body develops a tolerance for them and requires larger and larger doses to achieve the same effect. The same is true with self-pity. The more you allow yourself to indulge in it, the more you will require. Soon, self-pity will become a habit, one so debilitating that you will rob yourself of all the potential you possess. Happily, there is a cure. If you truly analyze the situation, most often you will find that the problems that have driven you to pity yourself are mostly of your own creation. It follows, then, that the best person to remedy the problem is the person who created it: you, yourself.

Drifting, without aim or purpose, is the first cause of failure.

Without a plan for your life, it is easier to follow the course of least resistance, to go with the flow, to drift with the current with no particular destination in mind. Having a definite plan for your life greatly simplifies the process of making hundreds of daily decisions that affect your ultimate success. When you know where you want to go, you can quickly decide if your actions are moving you toward your goal or away from it. Without definite, precise goals and a plan for their achievement, each decision must be considered in a vacuum. Definiteness of purpose provides context and allows you to relate specific actions to your overall plan.

Wise persons are those who think twice before speaking once.

Perhaps the greatest quality in a person and the most valuable skill in building relationships is the ability to think before you speak. If you have a tendency to speak hastily in anger and regret your actions at leisure, the childhood admonition to count to ten before speaking will still serve you well. When you pause — if only for a moment — to consider the consequences, you may think better of what you were about to say. And if you must speak strongly, it’s a good idea to sugarcoat the words — just in case you have to eat them later.

Remember, it takes at least two people to carry on a quarrel.

It’s difficult to remember in the heat of a disagreement that it takes two to quarrel. It may help to remember that no one can disagree with you while you are agreeing with them. This is not to suggest that you should compromise your principles. It is possible, however, to remain true to your beliefs while simultaneously searching for common ground that will enable you to work productively with others who may at first disagree with you. When others are upset with you or with a situation that involves you, let them know that you understand how they feel. Examine the problem from their point of view. What is the source of the conflict? How could it be resolved in a manner that would satisfy the interests of all involved? How have you contributed to the problem? When you try to find solutions instead of attempting to affix blame, others will almost always respond in kind.

All enduring success is founded upon harmonious human relationships.

Most of us are incapable of “going it alone.” Whether it is in our careers, in our personal relationships, or in life, we all need others if we are to achieve the level of success we desire. Besides, what’s the point of having it all if we have no one we care about to share it? You may choose to work with others, you may ignore them, or you may choose to work against them, but the greatest successes in life come to those who work harmoniously with others. When your personal goals coincide with those of another, not only does the power of your combined labors benefit you, but such cooperation also creates a synergistic effect that allows you to achieve far more than the simple sum of your individual efforts. Know that friendship freely given and gratefully received is one of life’s greatest gifts.

You can always see in others whatever traits of character you are looking for.

Margaret Wolfe Hungerford said, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” It was her way of saying that we see what we wish to see in others. Every living human being is a complex combination of feelings, emotions, and thoughts — some good, some bad. Your impression of another depends far more upon you and your expectations of that person. If you believe someone is good, you will find good qualities. If you don’t, you won’t. When you are yourself a positive person, you tend to find positive qualities in others. As you work to develop good, constructive habits to improve yourself continually, make it a practice to look for those same qualities in others. It’s easy to spot another’s shortcomings, but when you identify the good in others and congratulate them upon their positive achievements, you will make friends on whom you can always depend — both in good times and bad.

Start going the extra mile and opportunity will follow you.

Going the extra mile can give you insight and a good reputation, both of which attract opportunity. Many obvious opportunities are found in places no one else has bothered to venture. If you put in the extra effort to make a good project an even better one, or you get to know your equipment better than anyone else on your shift, you will see things others overlook and be in a position to make use of them. Leaders who need a job done think first of people they know who will do it well. If other people respect you for the quantity and the quality of your work, you will find yourself advancing past others who regard their jobs as drudgery. For all the extra service that you’ve rendered, you’ll find yourself more than amply compensated by opportunities others never grasp.
